The Art of Jang
The central contest is jang, or battle. Flyers maneuver their kites so the string crosses an opponent’s line, then use coated string to cut it loose.

A good team includes the flyer and the charkha gir, who manages the wooden spool, releasing and gathering line at exactly the right moment.
The Azadi Kite
When a kite is cut free, it becomes an azadi kite. Children chase it through alleys and streets, hoping to claim the prize before it lands.
