Overview
From Kabul the road follows the gorge until the cliffs close in and the Panjshir River runs beside you. Villages offer tea quickly.
The valley has a modern political history that travelers have heard of; we do not sell that history as a security rating, and we do not call the valley safe.
What we can plan is a day or two of landscape, conversation, and, when it makes sense, the emerald-working towns. Access is assessed before each departure.

- Best time: May–June and September–October
- Getting there: Several hours by 4WD from Kabul when the road is open to the itinerary
- Pace: Light to moderate
- Planning: Conditions first. Panjshir is not automatically added to unrelated Kabul itineraries.
- Permits: Provincial tourist permits are processed in advance for booked tours
